Project Overview:
Located off Hwy 17 in Awendaw, SC, this rural, single-family project is set to welcome 28 new homes to the Town of Awendaw. The site was surrounded by protected wetland, posing unique challenges from start to finish. The groundwater throughout the site was very shallow and required constant attention during construction.
With existing site conditions at such low elevations, the plans required nearly 45,000 CY of fill to bring the site to grade, along with material from 5 ponds on the site.
During the clearing phase, the project’s plan set underwent a major modification. Changes were made to grading/earthwork, ponds, the storm drainage system and water. This gave JWC a small window to adjust, continue clearing and then continue to maintain production with very few hiccups along the way.
Challenges & Details:
- Proximity to wetland and ground water throughout the site
- Major modification to plan set just after clearing began
